February 2024 update

February is coming to an end, and I decided to do a little round up of the month so far…

⚠️ This is a venting post, if you don’t wanna read about me complaining for ages, please keep scrolling ⚠️

FAMILY

February is almost over and I guess I won’t miss it. The first half of the month was spent looking after my ailing childling. She went spent 4 days at school after the 6 weeks holiday and brought home a fever of 40+ and an awful cough which quickly escalated to pneumonia. It was honestly scary to see her get progressively worse despite the meds, and feel like she’s waning away. It took 5 visits to the doctor 1 visit to the hospital and a bunch of tests before they got her on the right antibiotics.

As soon as she recovered, it was my husband’s turn. He demanded strong meds right away and is feeling better although still not great.

I won’t lie, it’s taken a toll on my already fragile mental health.

STUDY

And then there’s the Graphic Design course that I started this term… which I have been desperately trying to stay on top of and which has been f*cking intense.

I mentioned before that they enrolled me late and I missed the orientation and the first week of lessons. Then, trying to balance it with the health stuff left me feeling like I was falling further and further behind.

But this week it was a relief to find out I’m not alone. We had chat an honest chat amongst the students, and found most of us floundering. We’ve been juggling 5 different assessments with 20-page briefs and instructions that are as clear as mud. That’s on top of 5+ hour Zoom sessions and trying to learn new things. It’s been chaotic and overwhelming. Concerns were raised with the teachers but they’re not the ones deciding how we’re assessed…

On the up side, I’ve been enjoying drawing and playing with Illustrator. Can definitely see how it will come handy, even if just for personal use. I’ve learned a couple more tricks in Photoshop (I’ve used it before, so it’s not completely terra-incognita). And I’m looking forward to learning more about typography! Oh, and meeting new creative people is always an amazing perk. And the student group is lovely, I was very glad to find out I’m not the only “mature” student. There’s people from all kinds of backgrounds there.

WRITING

I have been feeling so blocked! Not that I’m not writing. I have actually been writing quite a lot, mostly as a coping mechanism, but it feels directionless and I don’t really know where I’m going. Overthinking will be the end of me, alas.

In other news… I may have sign up as a freelance writer with a business, which may result in some sporadic work down the track… but I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it. For now my priority is to stay afloat with this course.

Oh, and I also got tickets to 30 Seconds To Mars but that’s a while away.

That’s all for now.

Hope you keep on keeping on 🫶🏻
