Although I can’t imagine my debut novel being named anything else right now, this wasn’t always the case. We went on quite a journey before landing on GALAXY GRIFTER.
My working title was Blackjack Interstellar, named after a location in the novel. But my publisher wanted something shorter and punchier. Although I liked my OG title and a bunch of people who have been following along on my journey had told me they liked it too, I didn’t have a matching title for book two. So I thought this was a good opportunity to find titles for both books at once. BJI ended up being kept as the series title.
My editor suggested a few alternative options and I came up with a bunch more… The document below shows the long and short lists and my thoughts process.
I sent these to my editor. She liked Grifting the Galaxy/ Swindling the Stars, but the publisher revised it to Galaxy Grifter and Star Swindler. And that’s what we ended up going with!
